Interjection definition for kids: It shows strong emotions, sudden feelings, it is the act of interjecting.

An interjection is the words that mainly express sudden feelings of people what they feel or expressions what they want to express to other people like an expression of joy, expression of sorrow, pain, regret, etc. These are different from other words in the English dictionary they only express.

Some of the basic interjections are “oh,” “Ouch,” and “Eww.” Most of the interjections complete with the exclamation sign (!) in grammar.

These interjections are used to show the emotion of friendship towards the other person when they meet. These include Greetings! , Hey!Hi! Etc.

2. Interjections for Joy
These interjections indicate the immediate emotion of laughter on an unexpected joyful event that happened. These involve Hurrah! , Hurray! , Wow!, Yippee! Etc.

  • Hurrah! We have got an extra day off.

3. Interjections for Approval and Boost
Uses of these interjections when we show an excellent knowledge of approval and deal on something that happened. These include Bravo! , Brilliant! , Well done! Etc.

  • Brilliant! You scored 95% percent in your final exams.

4. Interjections for Surprise
These interjections are used when we express a strong feeling of surprise at something that happened in both ways, negative or positive. These include What! , Oh! , Ah! , Eh!, Gosh, Wow, Whoa Etc.

  • What! Her mother died today.
  • Ah! I got graduated.
  • Eh! That seems so offensive.

5. Interjections for Trouble/Pain
These interjections are used when we show a strong emotion of worry about something sad that happened. These include: Ah! , Oh! , Ouch!, Alas! Etc.

For example,

  • Alas! His mom is dead.
  • Ouch! I hit my foot.
  • Ah! The pain of a headache.

6. Interjections for bidding farewell
 We use these Interjections to say goodbye. These include: Bye!, Goodbye!

For example,

  • Good-bye! we are going to our hometown
  • Bye! I have to move now.

7. Interjections for Expressing Uncertainty or Hesitation
These interjections are used when we are unsure and thinking of what to respond to next. These include: Hmm, Uh, Er Etc.

For example,
