Definition: A sentence is a group of words providing the sense of conversations. It may be a set of words containing a subject matter, predicate, statements, questions, exclamations, or commands. It begins up the capital letter and can end up with full stop (.), question mark (?), or with the exclamation mark(!). A sentence is a basic unit of any language that makes the conversation relevant and interesting. Sentences play a vital role in communication between people.

4 Types/Kinds of Sentences for Class 6

Sentences are broadly classified into four categories. Later on, we will discuss each one of them in detail:

  2. Imperative Sentence
  3. Exclamatory Sentence
  4. Interrogative Sentence

1. Declarative Sentence

Definition: A declarative sentence is a sort of Sentence that creates an announcement, facts, opinions, and provide explanations. It declares the statement or information.

A declarative sentence is a simple and straightforward statement. The sentence ends with the full stop (.).

Declarative Sentence is generally used in delivering the facts and information directly.

Examples of Declarative Sentence:

  1. He is eating an orange.
  2. She witnessed a robbery last month.
  3. I wash my car every weekend.
  4. The weather is hot today.
  5. My father goes to the office.
  6. She is a brave girl.
  7. I can speak German fluently.
  8. I love my country.
  9. My family lives in London.
  10. The Red fort is in Delhi.

2. Imperative Sentence

Definition: An Imperative sentence gives a right away command, makes an invitation, or offers advice. It is basically accustomed to provide direction of information to the people. It can end in an exceedingly period (full stop) or question mark(?) looking forward to the nature of the command. Imperative sentences are generally used to give orders or to take permission from an entity.

Examples of Imperative sentence:

  1. Open the door.
  2. Wash your clothes.
  3. Get out of my office!
  4. Go and obtain some water for me.
  5. Pass the book.
  6. Please help me.
  7. Drive fast.
  8. Don’t shout.
  9. Finish your work first.
  10. It can help you.

3. Exclamatory Sentence

Definition: An exclamatory sentence is a powerful sentence that expresses the emotion or excitement of an entity. An exclamatory sentence ends up with an exclamation mark (!). Exclamatory sentences are generally used to address feelings and emotions to deliver them in the right manner.

Examples of Exclamatory sentences:

  1. Wow! This place is extremely beautiful.
  2. Hurrah! We won the match.
  3. Oh! I messed up all.
  4. Wow! The Taj Mahal is so beautiful.
  5. Hurrah! We are going to Australia tomorrow.
  6. Wow! He is so creative.
  7. We are going to miss you all!
  8. I can’t believe he has done it!
  9. Wow! I received the concert tickets.
  10. Oh, God! This place is like heaven.

4. Interrogative Sentence

Definition: An Interrogative sentence is another type of Sentence that directly asks questions and it is ended up with a question mark (?). An interrogative Sentence is essential to clear your doubts regards anything. It is a useful tool because you can’t imagine the world without questions. These sentences are generally used to ask questions in a decent manner.

Examples of Interrogative sentences:

  1. Where are you going?
  2. What you will eat for the breakfast tomorrow?
  3. Are you preparing a dance for the annual function?
  4. What is your plan for next weekend?
  5. How do you encourage yourself to perform well?
  6. Have you ever seen a ghost?
