Adverb Definition and Examples for Class 7

Definition:- Adverbs refer to the words that add meaning to the verbs, adjectives, or to an adverb themselves. Adverbs can always be used to modify verbs.  Normally, an adverb can be spotted by the fact that it often ends in –ly, but there are lots of adverbs that don’t end in this way.

Understand it with some examples (Adverb Examples for Class 7):-

  1. She faced the interview quite confidently.
  2. He plays cricket matches actively.
  3. She sees everything with greediness.

Types of Adverbs

So basically there are 9 (nine) kinds of adverbs which are classified as follows:-

  1. Adverbs of manner
  2. Adverbs of time
  3. Adverbs of degree
  4. Adverbs of place
  5. Adverbs of frequency
  6. Interrogative Adverbs
  7. Adverbs of affirmation, negation
  8. Exclamatory adverbs
  9. Relative adverbs.

Let’s know each and every adverb separately.

1. Adverbs of manner

This adverb explains how an action is being performed and it is used to show how or in what manner an event takes place.

Examples:-

  • dance slowly,
  • Run fast.  

These are peacefully, quickly, certainly, loudly, gladly, so, thus, badly, fast, etc.

2. Adverbs of time

This adverb explains when an action is performed. Moreover, Such adverbs are used to reflect time.

Examples:-

  • come tomorrow.
  • Let’s learn today.

These are ago, after, already, late, now, today, tonight, tomorrow, yesterday, etc.

3. Adverbs of degree

It is used to explain the degree or intensity to which an action takes place. In other words, it answers the question “To what extent?”

Examples:-

  • understand it completely.
  • Totally full.

These are partly, fully, pretty, as, almost, very, enough, quite, etc.

4. Adverbs of place

This adverb explains where an action is performed. In other words, it is used to explain the venue or place where the action takes place.

Examples:-

  • meet me downstairs after class.
  • Come here.

These are near, far, anywhere, here, above, below, inside, outside, everywhere, etc.

5. Adverbs of frequency

This adverb explains how often an action is performed.

Examples:-

  • I have learned it thrice.
  • We Came Here usually

These are seldom, often, never, ever, again, once, twice, thrice, usually, etc.

6. Adverbs of affirmation, and negation

This adverb tells about the expressions, denial, or assertion of something. In other words, it declares that something is true, or positive.

Examples:-

  • I can probably go there.
  • He will certainly tell us.

These are hardly, rarely, exactly, truly, certainly, almost, probably, etc.

7. Interrogative Adverbs

This adverb is all about asking questions. In other words, it is used to ask questions related to action. 

Examples:-

  • when will you come here?
  • Why are you crying?

These are where, when, why, how, how much, how long, how many, how often, etc.

8. Exclamatory adverbs

This adverb tells about the degree or extent of exclamations; words like how and what.

Examples:-

  • how greedy she was!
  • What a hilarious comedy!

9. Relative adverbs

It is used to join two sentences or two clauses. Relative adverbs indicate their antecedents in the process of joining.

Examples:-

  • I read whenever I got a chance.
  • I stayed where you asked me to.
