Through your esteemed newspaper, I would like to bring your kind notice to the increasing number of beggars at the places of tourist interest. One can see beggars of different kinds extending hands before the travelers for arms. This presents a very grim picture of India. In reality, only a few of them are needy while most of them extert money only to use in merry-making and doing other crimes. Not to speak of it, they congest and crowd the road and it often becomes difficult to cross the road. Some of them earn a rich booty by pickpocketing innocent tourists. Side by side it spoils the beauty of the place and the foreign visitors make a very poor impression about India. Among these beggars, there are a large number of people who keep themselves busy doing criminal activities. This enhances the crime rate in society and ruins the national character. In this connection, it is suggested that a strict law should be enforced throughout India to ban begging. Along with this, the government should arrange for them proper sheltering places, none can think of engaging himself in this social evil.
