Use of ‘Was’

Was is used when we talk about one person, place, animal, or thing.

Example:

  1. He was hungry.
  2. There was a big tree.
  3. She was late for the party.
  4. It was raining in the morning.
  5. The house was very big.
  6. Harry was absent Yesterday.
  7. Neha was ill.
  8. My mother was cooking food.
  9. Yesterday it was Monday.
  10. That was a big snake.

Use of  ‘Were’

Were is used when we talk about more than one person, place, animal, or thing and pronoun.

Examples:

  1. You were going outside.
  2. They were watching TV.
  3. Nisha and Sunaina were best friends.
  4. His friends were going to the party.
  5. We were waiting for him.
  6. Children were playing with the ball.
  7. Two students were absent Yesterday.
  8. Where were you going?
  9. My friends were planning a trip.
  10. There were only coins .
