Preposition For Class 5

Definition of Preposition: Prepositions are the words that join a group of words and phrases or join nouns or pronouns with other phrases words like things or objects in a sentence.

Examples:-

In, on, at, with, behind, into, to, at, under, etc. are some prepositions.

There are some examples of Prepositions in sentences given below:

1. The clothes are in the cupboard.
2. She is going out for shopping.
3. The boy fell into the river.
4. The book is behind the pillow.
5. The cat is under the table.
6. The grocery shop is near the park.
7. She is afraid of the dog.

Types of Prepositions For Class 5

There are three types of Prepositions:-

1. Preposition of time
2. Preposition of place
3. Preposition of direction

1. Preposition of Time

A preposition that tells us to indicate the specific time of an action or allowed to discuss the specific time period is a preposition of time.

In, on, at, before, and until are some prepositions of time.

Examples:-

1. Maya is on the way to your home.
2. She always washes her hands before eating.
3. The teacher will arrive by 12:00 a.m. at the school.
4. She wakes up at 5:30 a.m. every day.
5. We will go on a trip in October.
6. The kids are waiting for the bus.
7. She fell down during the rehearsal.
8. The work should be completed within this week.
9. They will not leave until their friend arrives.
10. She shifted to Jaipur last year.

2. Preposition of Place

The preposition of the place tells us about a position of an object which determines place or indicates a place in a sentence.

On, In, at, and inside are some prepositions of place.

Examples:-

1. The bird is sitting on the tree.
2. The file is in the almirah.
3. The bird flies high above the tree.
4. She is sitting after her friend in the hall.
5. The rat moves under the bed.
6. The shop is in front of the house.
7. The man is sitting near the stairs.
8. The pen is in the book between the pages.
9. There is a big mango tree beside the river.
10. She had to attend the meeting at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.

3. Peposition of Direction

Prepositions of direction are associated with motion so it describes the direction when the person or thing moves or travels through or indicates direction.

To, down, into, and up are some prepositions of directions.

Examples:-

1. He went to the market late at night.
2. Children are going down the stairs.
3. The cat runs into the kitchen.
4. The dog started running towards a man.
5. The kite flies up in the sky.
6. Rama walks slowly through the Woods.
7. The thief jumps over the wall.
8. The dog run across the park.
9. The rat is hiding behind the table.
10. The children are going to the party along with their parents.
