Degrees Of Comparison For Class 3

Degrees of comparison are the words that are used to compare things to one another.

Degrees Of Comparison are divided into three degrees:-

  1. Positive degree of comparison
  2. Comparative degree of comparison
  3. Superlative degree of comparison

1. Positive Degrees Of Comparison

The positive degree is used to talk about one individual person or a thing. It does not make any comparison. It is used to state the quality possessed by a noun or acts as a subject.

High, strong, bold, clever, and fast are some examples of positive degrees of comparison.

2. Comparative Degree of Comparison

The comparative degree of comparison is used to talk about two individuals persons or things. It is used to compare the two individuals to compare their quality.

It is formed by adding -er or -ier to the positive degree of comparisons.

Higher, stronger, bolder, cleverer, and faster are examples of  the comparative degree of comparison

3. Superlative Degree of Comparisons

The Superlative degree of comparison is used to talk about more than two individuals. It is used to compare about two or more individuals. It describes the particular quality of the same type.

It is formed by adding -est  or -iest to the superlative degree of comparisons.

Highest, strongest, boldest, cleverest, and fastest are examples of superlative degrees of comparison.
